The Smart Sense Lab continuously admits Masters students interested in working with Professor  William Schwartz and investigating problems related to computer vision.

The Computer Science Masters program at the UFMG was created in 1974. Currently, the Computer Science postgraduate program has the highest rating(7) according to CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel).

The Smart Sense Lab is selecting volunteer undergraduate students to work in the development of methods based in deep learning. The applicant must be an undergraduate student of Computer Science, Information Systems or similar and have knowledge of Python.

Knowledge in deep learning structures (Keras, Pytorch or Tensorflow) is an advantage.

The Smart Sense Lab is looking for candidates to a internship in computer infrastructure management. The applicant must be an undergraduate student of Computer Science, Information Systems or similar. They must also have knowledge of Linux, hardware, remote access tools and Shell/Python script.

Knowledge of network servers configuration (pfSense) and containers (Docker) is an advantage.

The Smart Sense Lab is selecting candidates to an internship in copydesk of scientific papers, and English writing lessons for the lab’s students.

The applicant must be an undergraduate student of Language courses or similar, They must speak English fluently, must have personal organization and good written and oral communication. Experience in translation, revision and teaching activities are advantages.

The activities to be performed are: copydesk and translation of academic production, documents and texts in Portuguese and English, support of the researchers through revision feedback and creation of communication/promotional pieces.

The Smart Sense Lab is selecting candidates for an internship in Management. The applicant must be an undergraduate student of Management or similar, must have basic knowledge of informatics and the Office package, as well as personal organization, good time management and good written and oral communication.

Mastery of the english language, experience in management activities and being in the last two semesters of college are considered advantages.

Among the activities to be carried out are: assisting in the administrative processes, auxiliary services of financial control and purchasing, participation and recording of meetings, structuring and organization of files and documents, and assisting in the communication with external connections.

The Smart Sense Lab is looking for full-stack web developers to work in a Research and Development project in partnership with Petrobras. The project involves researchers and developers from the Department of Computer Science of the UFMG.

The employee will work in the development of a real time video processing system with features such as scalability, high performance and distributed processing with the goal of providing scene analysis and people surveillance.

Apart from the challenges, this position is also an interdisciplinary learning opportunity, as it includes cutting-edge technologies in the following areas:

  • Massive processing of data
  • Distributed systems
  • Surveillance systems projects
  • Active camera control
  • Machine learning (Deep Learning)

The Smart Sense Lab is an enriching research and work environment that actively pursues research in these areas.

The employment contract will be under CLT regulations. The salary is R$ 5760,48 plus public transportation allowance and food ticket. The weekly workload is 40 hours, to be carried out at our lab (located in the ICEx building, at the Pampulha campus).

Required qualifications

The requirements for this position are: holding a degree in areas related to Computer Science or having equivalent professional experience; having experience in backend development in Python and database (NoSQL preferably).

Desired qualifications

Experience with frontend development (HTML5, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, etc.), expertise in distributed architectures and experience in the development of large scale systems.

The Smart Sense Lab is offering a master’s scholarship for working on the problem of active cameras as part of a large research and development project in partnership with Petrobras.

The problem of active cameras consists in controlling and coordinating a large set of cameras for the capture of visual data with higher level of detail. Computer vision, machine learning and distributed systems techniques are used to coordinate a system composed of two types of cameras: fixed and active.

A good grasp of programming logic, good programming practices and knowledge of computer vision are considered advantages. The value of the scholarship is R$ 2.140,00 and the duration of the project is 3 years.

The Smart Sense Lab is looking for developers for a research and development project in partnership with Petrobras.

The chosen applicant will work on the development of a scalable and distributed video surveillance system with real time requisites. This system will utilize cutting-edge technologies to provide a high performance system capable of analyzing a scene and providing a safe environment for workers. 

We are hiring under CLT regulations and the salary is in line with the market standards. This position is located at the city of Belo Horizonte.

Required qualifications

We are looking for developers who have experience with distributed systems, parallel programming, network programming, system integration and NoSQL databases.

Desired qualifications

Python experience, front-end development, like HTML5/CSS/Javascript, containerization and experience with video solutions.
