RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
Created in 2013, Smart Sense Laboratory has become a benchmark in research and troubleshooting related to Video Analysis, Computational Forensics and Biometrics, researching and developing techniques in different areas of Artificial Intelligence. In recent years, the laboratory has obtained more than R$ 8 million in resources through R&D projects in partnership with different companies and with the support of the main agencies that promote research and innovation in Brazil. To date, 13 projects were conducted, two patents were generated and more than 100 scientific articles were published. As a result, the group received seven awards and honorable mentions.
Through R&D projects carried out in partnership with the public and private sectors, we play an important role in strengthening the integration between academic research and the demands of industry. We are always looking for partnerships and collaborations. We invite you to contact us to discuss how the expertise of our team can assist in solving your problems.
We turn science into solutions to challenging problems
Areas of activity
Our Expertise
Our extensive research in Artificial Intelligence, applying several emerging technologies, allows us to transform scientific research results into innovative solutions. We work from data capturing, training and validation of predictive models to the optimization of the final solution. We develop solutions for identification and verification of faces, detection of people and objects, recognition of activities, recognition of vehicle license plates, control of active cameras, among other problems. From established techniques and scientific research, we are also able to create customized solutions according to specific demands.
Incentive Laws

Law of Informatics
The Law of Informatics grants tax incentives to companies in the technology sector (areas of hardware and automation) that invest in Research and Development. Smart Sense is able to raise funds by law.

EMBRAPII
In 2016, the Department of Computer Science of UFMG was accredited as an unit of the Brazilian Industrial Research and Innovation Company (EMBRAPII) and in 2017, Smart Sense Laboratory began its first RD&I project through the DCC / EMBRAPII partnership.

ANP
The National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency is the regulator of the activities that integrate the oil, natural gas and biofuel industries in Brazil. Our laboratory is accredited by the ANP to develop projects in the area since 2018.
