The Smart Surveillance Interest Group started, early this month, the execution of a R&D project as a partnership with Maxtrack, a Minas Gerais based company leader in vehicle tracking and telemetry, through EMBRAPII DCC/UFMG. The project’s main focus is the development of algorithms based on computer vision and machine learning for video analytics considering Internet of Things (IoT) scenarios. Several problems in the surveillance and biometric domains will be addressed in this project, including vehicle recognition and person detection, tracking, and identification, research topics studied by the Smart Surveillance Interest Group.

The development of this R&D project will contribute to the Smart Surveillance Interest Group achieve one of its goals – bridge the gap between academic research and practical applications to foster new technologies to generate benefits to society.
